Lisa + Patrick’s Mountain Micro-Wedding

I LOVED photographing this autumn elopement for so many reasons! To start, Lisa + Patrick brought such great energy to the woodsy photo session portion of the day! It was windy where we were, high up on that mountain ridge, that Lisa’s veil took on a life of its own, which allowed for some really dramatic shots!

Speaking of the mountain, the venue they booked was just incredible! North Star Gatherings is situated within 35 acres of pine and aspen forest in Idaho Springs, Colorado, and has this fantastic outdoor deck which is perfect for micro-wedding ceremonies. Lisa + Patrick had to significantly downsize their wedding party due to COVID, and the North Star was absolutely perfect for their alternative wedding plans.

The ceremonial platform provides a stunning vista of the Continental Divide in the majestic Rocky Mountains and you really feel like you’re immersed deep in the woods, while still having all the conveniences of a brand-new wedding venue. A bonus feature: North Star Gatherings is committed to a small environmental footprint, and their property is surrounded by protected Forest Service land.

As the venue doesn’t provide food, Lisa + Patrick hired a local food truck to feed their wedding guests. What a cool idea! The Asian-inspired cuisine looked delicious, and the food truck brought a fun and casual vibe to the party.

After the ceremony, Lisa + Patrick strapped on their hiking boots and we set out into the woods for our sunset photo shoot. We had so much fun tromping around, and I loved being able to capture their enthusiasm and energy on camera. This late-October elopement gave us some clear weather and cool winds, but Lisa + Patrick share a love for all things outdoors (skiing, cycling, and even rollerblading!) so they weren’t phased by the colder temps.
